New LINKS Missionaries

This year our assigned LINKS missionaries have changed!  To read more about what the LINKS program is about, click here for a previous blog post.

The Acosta family is located in Lima, Peru.  They are Venezuelan missionaries called to minister to their neighbors, the Peruvians.  The hold a few different positions within the church system, but we thought we'd highlight their family and how you can best pray for them.

José David and his wife Luzmaris have two beautiful children, Daniela and Daviana, ages 5 and 3.  Daviana loves to sing and to play with her My Little Pony toys.  Daniela is learning to play the piano and loves to play with her dogs.
They ask you to pray for a few specific things:
- Their girls beginning in a new school this year
- Their fundraising that supports their living expenses
- Several trips planned for their ministry coming up
- For the mission project teams that come to Peru to serve

Please be in prayer for this family.  They are serving the Lord in a culture not their own.

Secondly, our other LINKS missionary is a retired gentleman who served in South Africa.  His name is Philip Steigleder.  He received the call to missions while in the Marines and witnessing missionary results in the Solomon Islands.  When he returned to college in January 1946, the Lord told him, "I do not want your money, I want you."  His prayer requests are:
- That people would send money to Headquarters to help students who are called to the ministry, so they can enroll in Bible Schools and answer that call from God.
- That Jesus Films will continue to reach people and bring about the great revival that our world needs.

Please be in prayer for this man - he is a great example of someone who has responded to God's call throughout his whole life!

Update from the Team in Peru

The 11 people who traveled to Peru for a mission project are working hard and having a great time!  Our Eugene folks joined up with a few other churches from around the USA to serve in Cusco, Peru.

The whole team rotates to different projects and areas of service each day.  On the construction site, they are building two mobile foam chapels to be used by healthy new church plants.  On the Impact side, they have put on a kids' festival, visited prisons, hosted a Jesus Film, run 2 medical clinic days, visited an orphanage and more.  And that's only the first week!

Here are several pictures to help capture the vision and the amazing ways the team is impacting the outskirt poor areas of Cusco, Peru.

World Malaria Day

Every minute, a child dies of malaria, and 3.3 billion people—half the world’s population—are at risk of this deadly disease. Yet malaria is entirely preventable and treatable.
On April 25, people around the globe will observe World Malaria Day to remember those affected by this disease and to recognize the work that is taking place to end its threat. Prevention efforts are effective, and since 2000, the mortality rates connected to malaria have decreased by more than 25 percent. Still, there is work left to do.
Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and local churches in Africa, where 90 percent of malaria cases occur, are taking part in global efforts to fight this disease that takes the lives of 655,000 people, mostly children, each year.
Local churches in Kenya have distributed thousands of mosquito nets, a highly cost-effective way to save lives and improve child and maternal health, as well as keeping children in school and allowing adults to remain economically productive in their work. Through the East African Famine Relief efforts, churches are partnering with other organizations to distribute thousands more bed nets to prevent the spread of malaria as people sleep. Health clinics in places like Burkina Faso and Swaziland are treating children and families with malaria and providing anti-malarial medications. In Mozambique and other countries, community health education efforts geared toward children are helping to prevent the spread of disease, including malaria.
Malaria is a disease that disproportionately affects those who can least afford treatment or have little access to preventive health care. Malaria prevention and control is an inexpensive and effective way to interrupt the cycle of poverty affecting hundreds of thousands of families. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries invites the global church to join together as we seek to prevent malaria and care for the sick and, in this way, proclaim the Gospel to all people in word and deed.

A Letter From the Radis

Dear Friends,

Greetings from the Radi Family!!!! We are back in Argentina and have hit the ground running!!!! But we didn´t want to let too much time pass before sharing our appreciation to you all for the wonderful deputation tour we had this year.  At some point between Dec 2011 and Feb 2012, we were honored to be in your church.  When I say honored, I am speaking the truth because our time with you all was one of refreshment, joy and feeling pampered.  Thank you for your giving, that you for your hospitality and most of all, thank you for your friendship.

Never have we experienced a deputation tour that was so full and packed with services.  I was worried we wouldn't make it!  In Jan and Feb we spoke 87 times!!!!! But in all truth, it was one of the most encouraging and blessed tours we have had.  This is because of you.  Thank you for your love.

As we jump into ministry here in Argentina again, things are good but crazy.  The girls started their school year and are doing very well. We arrived in our local church to find 30 new teenagers who have never been to church before, so attendance is higher than ever!!! And so is the work load!!! HA!  Our assignments at the Southern Cone Field Office are as busy as ever- especially now since many of your churches are looking into coming on a Work and Witness team!!! YEAH!!!!

Please continue to pray for the ministry God has given us here.  Our local church was broken into on Saturday night and some musical instruments were taken.  Pray for the spiritual growth of these new teenagers as we disciple them.  Pray for our girls and their education, protection and spiritual growth.  And pray for us- Carlos and I are enjoying the ministry God has set before us during this time.  May we be servants worthy of His calling.  Oh, and continue to pray and seek the Lord as you possibly plan to come down to Argentina or Chile on a team!!!

Lots of love,
Your missionaries, Carlos and Robin Radi

World Water Day 2012

On March 22, 2012, people around the world will join together to remember the nearly one in seven people who go without clean water today and every day. On World Water Day, as we pray for people who face drought, waterborne diseases, lack of sanitation, and other water-related natural disasters, may the love God has given to us inspire our prayers to move us to action.
Many people in the world’s driest areas with the least water infrastructure (such as wells, water catchment systems, and sanitation systems), walk an average of four miles to reach water sources that are often unclean. But the problem doesn’t stop there. Without water, people don’t have the chance to grow food for their families.

This is not their problem – it is our problem.

Jesus said, “If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward” (Matthew 10:42).

Remember tomorrow to pray, seek how you can be involved and act!
